Second only to sunnies, my affinity for flip-flops is one of my most defining style quirks. Every spring, I anxiously await weather to climb to 60 degrees so I can break out of closed-toe prison (a.k.a. winter) and show off my pedicure to the world at every appropriate opportunity. So you can imagine, I am baffled (why stay in prison?!) and bothered (even I think they’re cute!) by an emerging trend: summer boots.
I’ve seen hints of this on summertime visits to my husband’s native England. A) Because it’s not that warm there and B) because British summer music festival season demands fashionable bootwear that can withstand life on the moors, I regularly spy Brit birds sporting short, flat boots with looks this California Girl would normally finish more delicately.
It hurts my sunworshipping nature to admit that I’m excited to channel my inner Kate Moss & Co. and bring some haute boot-ure to the West Coast this summer. Even if you can’t make it to Glastonbury, there are still plenty of opportunities to trade your flip flops in for boots this summer.
